Safety on board
The weather is nice, and you are going to sail with your friends or family. Very cosy of course. You will not immediately think of it, but what if you end up in a dangerous situation? In this blog we tell you more about it.
Preventing danger
A commonly used term is “prevention is better than cure”. Preventing danger can save you a lot of trouble. But how do you avoid danger?
In the blog sailing rules and tips, some tips are already given to prevent danger. Here are the most important rules and tips:
- On the fairway, keep to starboard side (right side) as much as possible. Also, within the concrete fairway.
- Adjust the course and speed of your sloop or motorboat in time when you give way to another ship. Show clearly which course you are heading and give each other room to manoeuvre. Do not suddenly change course and speed.
- Make sure you have good all-round visibility and look behind you regularly.
- Be alert to annoying waves or suction from your sloop or motorboat. Reduce speed in time to prevent dangerous situations and damage to other ships.
- Anchor only where it is safe. Not near bridges, locks, workboats with protruding anchors and in the middle of a fairway.

Are things on your yacht broken?
It would be something, you sail a route and on the way your boat suddenly stops. This can be due to several things. Maybe the battery is empty? Or has the fuel run out? Therefore, always check beforehand whether all technical parts are still in order and whether there is sufficient fuel available.
Is there a material defect such as a leak? And is your boat slowly filling up? Then have this made in advance. This prevents annoyance and the risk of danger for you and your passengers.
Safety articles
To provide safety, some safety items are mandatory to take with you while sailing. Think about:
Telephone with emergency numbers
