What is UK Part 1 Boat Registration?
The UK Part 1 yacht registration is globally valid and available for private, bareboat, and commercial vessels up to 24 meters. For vessels over 24 meters, an ITC69/coding certificate is required. This registration provides proof of ownership, nationality, and assigns a unique registration number, allowing you to register marine mortgages and ensuring worldwide recognition of your vessel.
The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) manages the British ‘Red Ensign’ register, offering global support from any British consulate or embassy. Transfers between British ensign flags are also simple and straightforward.
Who Can Register a Vessel Under the UK Flag?
Who Can Register a Vessel Under the UK Flag?
The UK Part 1 registration is open to anyone, regardless of nationality. If you’re a non-UK national, we can help you set up a UK dormant company to own your vessel. This allows you to avoid the strict regulations of countries like Spain, Italy, Greece, and France, making it a preferred option for many international boat owners.
UK LTD Company Setup for Boat Ownership
UK LTD Company Setup for Boat Ownership
We can establish a UK LTD company for you in just 2 days. This LTD will own your vessel, and multiple owners can be included if necessary. The LTD setup cost is included in the registration fee, and there’s an annual fee of 350 EUR for maintaining the company. Since the LTD is solely used for boat ownership, no taxes or government filings are required.
Once the LTD is set up, we’ll transfer your vessel ownership to the company and complete the UK boat registration.

Use Your Vessel for Private, Bareboat, or Commercial Purposes
With the UK Part 1 registration, you can use your vessel for private use, bareboat charters, or commercial purposes. The documentation and process are the same for all three categories.
Maritime Requirements for UK Boat Registration
Once registered, vessel owners must display the official number, registration document, and tonnage on the boat. The vessel’s name and chosen port must be clearly marked on the stern. A certified carving and marking note must be returned within three months to confirm compliance.
Required Paperwork for UK Part 1 Boat Registration
– Authorization letter (we will prepare this)
– Copy of your passport
– Copy of the Bill of Sale
– Three unique vessel name options (the UK authorities will confirm availability)
– Tonnage and measurement certificate (must be less than one year old)
– Deletion certificate (if previously registered)
For commercial use only, an ITC69/coding certificate must be arranged after document approval. Additionally, small commercial vessels require a Work Boat, Passenger Boat, Small Commercial Vessel Certificate, or a safety certificate issued by an authorized surveyor.
Setting Up a UK Company for Non-Residents
For non-residents or those not on the approved country list, we’ll establish a British LTD. The company will own your vessel, eliminating the need for taxes or government filings. We’ll handle the transfer of ownership and complete the UK registration process in just 2-4 business days.
MMSI Radio License for VHF, AIS, Radar, and EPIRB
A valid MMSI/radio license is mandatory for your yacht. We recommend applying for a MMSI/Radio license during the UK flag registration process. The license allows the operation of VHF Radio, radar, EPIRB, transponder, and other essential equipment.
We can arrange a UK MMSI radio license for €150 if combined with flag registration, or for €250 if ordered separately. No radio course is required; we only need a copy of your passport.
